Meeting with the Sun

I had an appointment this morning. Nothing serious. It wasn’t even on my calendar, but it’s a recurring meeting invite I keep mentally locked in, ingrained in my routine.

I always arrive ten minutes early, just in case you decide to show up ahead of schedule, too.

I’ve done this for so long, you would think I know you’re always punctual.

Always right on time.

This week, I’m in a new location for our meeting.

I find a seat on the beach, coffee in hand. I get comfortable and sip on my first cup of joe.

The wind is rustling the palm trees, and the ocean water is lapping at my feet.

As I look out over the horizon, I’m concerned you might not show up for our appointment.

There is a wall of light gray, thick clouds blocking you from me.

Maybe it’s your protective shroud, or your winter flannel blanket.

I’m sure even you need something cozy to wrap up in during the winter months.

I patiently wait for your slow ascension.

Or should I say for the earth rises to meet you?

I mean, we do revolve around you.

I look around and notice a few others have joined me, finding their places for their personal meetings with you.

It always makes me smile to know I’m not the only person with this standing meeting.

Eventually, the earth rotates just enough, and your hues of blush and fuchsia begin to peek out over your cozy blanket of clouds.

As the minutes tick by, the shades of pink transition to oranges, and then to your fullest, glorious yellow radiance.

I stand to honor your arrival and give thanks for the chance to live another day.

I look around at my fellow sun lovers and see everyone is giving you the standing ovation you deserve.

I hope you know how well loved you are by all.

How revered you are by all.

How coveted you are by all.

I thank you for granting me this experience, another meeting with no words spoken out loud, yet so many promises quietly made.

You’ve given me the gift I need to start my day.

I begin my walk back home.

Smiling ear to ear.

Ever so grateful to have made it through the darkness to live another day.
